The Vineyard is a beautiful place no matter where you go on the island. However, there are some areas of the island that have breathtaking views and are owned by local tribes. One such place is Aquinnah Cliffs in Aquinnah, which is located at the westernmost tip of the island. I have seen beautiful photos of this area, but pictures serve this place no justice. This beautiful overlook is owned by the Wampanoag Nation, an Indigenous tribe on the island. They are skilled at so many things. The locals talk about the beautiful jewelry they create.

We drove to Menemsha to see the sunset, but we probably should have remained here in Aquinnah to watch the sunset. As we stood there, we heard people near us saying they were headed to Menemsha to watch the sunset. We were headed there also, but by the time we arrived, the clouds had moved in. I wonder what the view was from here on Aquinnah Cliffs as the sun set because this was the beautiful view we captured as we observed the cliffs in Aquinnah.

If you are on the Vineyard, please visit Aquinnah close to sunset. You can watch the sunset from the cliffs or from Menemsha. Hopefully, you will catch a beautiful glimpse of the sun setting at what seems to be the end of the earth. The trip is worth it!
