Southern Pearl Oyster House

During my trip to my alma mater, Southern University, my friends from Huntsville, Alabama met my family at Southern Pearl Oyster House, a restaurant in Baton Rouge. I lived in Baton Rouge for 16 years, but this was a new restaurant that I had not visited. It was highly recommended by Kyla, a young lady who used to live in Huntsville but had moved back to Baton Rouge and was working at Southern. She made a great recommendation, and we had a great time visiting with each other.

I love the beautiful old New Orleans decor in the restaurant. It reminds me of a restaurant straight from the French Quarter of New Orleans.

I love a great menu that is not overwhelming. They had an awesome menu with a lot of my favorites listed.

We started with the Oyster Sampler — a combination of Oysters Bienville, Oysters Rockefeller, and Oysters Orleans. If you want great oysters, you cannot go wrong in Louisiana. Louisiana makes a great oyster every time. I used to eat these raw on the half shell when I was in law school. We would leave class on a Friday and meet up at The Chimes at LSU. We’d get some horseradish and ketchup and have the best time dipping and eating oysters.

I ordered the Redfish Orleans. In my Cajun voice, “Oooh wee! This was delicious!” This is blackened redfish topped with Gulf shrimp sautéed in their New Orleans style smoky Cajun sauce — topped with lump crabmeat and Parmesan cheese. I did not regret this choice. I ate every bit of this redfish!

After we finished eating, I had to make a CC’s run! I LOVE CC’s MOCHASSIPPIs! They closed at 9, and we were leaving around 8:50. I told Matt we had to hurry so I could get my coffee before we left Baton Rouge. We made it two minutes before they closed. If you don’t know me by now, let me tell you I love CC’s better than Starbucks any day! I do not drink frozen coffees often, but if I am in Louisiana, I need one of these!
