City House

My sister came to town while she was on vacation.  We drove to Nashville to shop and had a great time.  I love shopping, but I am picky about my shopping buddies.  My sister is a great shopping buddy because she is patient when I can’t make up my mind, and I am patient when she can’t make up her mind.   All of the shopping made us hungry, so we decided to go to City House.  City House was featured on the Food Network, so I had to try them out while in Nashville.

We sat at the bar, which had an open view of the kitchen.  I loved watching them cook everyone’s meal.  I sat there and watched them roll the dough for my pizza and put it in the pizza oven.

I ordered the margherita pizza, which was delicious.  I hate thick crust pizzas, so this was really what I had in mind when I thought of pizza. Their mozzarella is made in house, so I had to try it.  Remember, if a restaurant makes something in house,  you probably need to try it.  They also make their sausages in house, but I don’t do sausage unless it is turkey or chicken.  I thoroughly enjoyed this pizza.  Most people don’t like anchovies, but I loved them on this pizza.  The mozzarella was especially delicious, although I try to stay away from cheese.

My sister chose the catfish with the cornmeal crust, carrots, fennel, peanuts, raisins, garlic scape and lemon.  The lemon brought all of the flavors together. I would not have imagined catfish with peanuts and raisins, but I must admit, the chef knew what he was doing. It was the perfect combination. My sister does not like “fussy” food, so I thought this would be a bit much for her.  She loved it, and so did I! I finished her plate for her.  I do not believe in wasting food!

For dessert, I chose the coffee rum caramel panna cotta with sorghum graham crumbs and chocolate espresso and toffee cookies.  I can eat this all over again!

This dessert had such a rich, creamy, and smooth flavor.

But this dessert though…I am going back to Nashville just to order this!  Nikki ordered the almond ricotta pound cake, lemon marmalade, and lemon ricotta gelato.  If I had tasted this before ordering my dessert, I would have chosen this in a heartbeat. My dessert was delicious, but this was some of the BEST pound cake I have ever eaten.  The almond flavor balanced well with the lemon ricotta gelato.  Please, please, please try this if you are ever in Nashville.  You will not regret it.  As a matter of fact, you’ll thank me.  This is truly one of the best desserts I have ever eaten.  The dessert is on the level with my favorite bread pudding with bourbon sauce.
